Big Game Fishing - Catch Blue Marlin, Barracuda, Swordfish & Shark off the coast of Kenya

Tega catches "Big Blue"

Leaving Waitamu at 6.30am, would you believe it, on April fools day. With experienced lady angler Jennette Marie Levy. The sea was flat, calm and we decided to head south to the deep waters off haggard mountains, March and April are known for the opportunity of a big marlin, so we were running nothing less than 80lb tackle, with 130lb on the tag lines.

At 9.30am as we approached haggards I saw some dorardo leaping from the water. I turned towards the scattering fish, which were obviously trying to escape something bigger.

As I got closer I saw a bill thrashing on the surface (a nice fish too) I turned to put the fish into my spread. It immediately came up to a tag line, running a large blue and white pulsator, lure, his dorsal rising high above the water.

The marlin immediately inhales the lure. The rubber bands crack from the clip and I gunned the boat `FISH ON`

Jennette climbs into the fighting chair and the 130lb rod is passed to her and the harness adjusted. `It could be a long fight`. The fish dives deep with the drag so tight that it lifts her out of the chair.

With no sign of stopping and the line running dangerously low we clip another 130 rod to the nearly spooled reel. I must admit the thought of throwing a £900 rod and reel over the side was a bit frightening.

With more drag applied the fish eventually stops just in time and we start gaining line slowly but surely.

Minutes turn into hours and the strain on Jennette is starting to show.
